Okay. I’m writing this book called fReAk, and I want to know how it’s doing. I’ll post the first chapter on here, but please be honest if you are going to comment on it. Sorry if this post is long.
Present. Sullivan, Maine
Ria looked out the window of the school bus that was taking her to the boring halls of Sumner High. Her Sullivan bus was rather slow, and she couldn’t wait to get off it. I gotta talk to Peaches and Ranger, Ria thought. Peaches’ real name was Samantha Parkin, but she loves peaches, so she called herself Peaches. Rangers’ real name is Drew Parker, but he’s a park ranger, so he is called Ranger.
The moment Ria went into the school, Peaches tackled her. “Hurro Air!”
Backwards names again, Ria thought. “Hey Sehcaep!”
Peaches laughed. “How do you know how to pronounce that? Nevermind. I just figured out yesterday that the government’s been studying me for a while. Almost a year.”
“They’ve been at me for almost ten. But that’s not important. Let’s find Ranger. Maybe then we’ll see Hud.” Hud’s name was Hudson Alteri, but he was called Hud. The friends had one thing in common: The government was studying them.
Ranger stood outside with Hud, throwing clods of dirt at each other. Once Ria and Peaches were outside, the two male teens decided to gang up on them and attack them with dirt clods.
“You guys asked for it!” Peaches grabbed a large dirt clod and threw it at Ranger, while Ria threw a huge one at Hud. They were outmatched, and completely by the opposite sex
“Okay! Okay!” Ranger called. “We give! You win!!” He laughed at Ria’s grin of triumph. All of a sudden, a voice sounded from the doorway.
“What are you idiots doing?” the voice said. Ria turned to face the figure, hoping it wasn’t Mrs. Boris, or Mrs. Boarass, as she liked to call her. Instead, she was face-to-face with her lifelong friend Kathlynn “Kat” Waters. She had a huge grin on her face.
“What are you doing here?” Ria asked confusedly.
Kat sighed. “Are you seriously that dumb or did you forget? Step-up day, remember?”
“I didn’t forget Kitty,” Ria lied convincingly,
“Then you must be dumb.” Kat laughed as Ria fumed. “Anyway, are you going to introduce me to these dorks of yours?”
Ria scratched the back of her head. “Yeah. This is Ranger, Peaches, and Hud.”
“Coolio.” Kat nodded approvingly, glancing at Hud.
She better not be lookin’ at Ranger, Ria thought jealously. Hud? Fine. I don’t like him. Well, like I like Ranger anyway. I’m hungry.
“You aren’t thinking about me, are you?” Kat asked, almost knowingly.
Damn. How’d she know? She’s always been able to do that… Damn I’m hungry… I should go to the Caf…
“We should go get something to eat,” Kat said, staring at the sky.
“Dude. That was weird.”
Kat shot me a glance. “What was weird?”
“Nothing. Let’s go to the Caf.”

Ria gripped the lacrosse stick while talking to Kat. “Come on, you gotta play, or you get no credit.”
“I’m not playing lacrosse, and I don’t even go here. Yet,” Kat stated firmly, sitting cross-legged on the bleachers.
The P.E teacher, Mrs. Harmon, trudged up to the two girls. “You’ll fail the day at your school for lack of participation if you-”
“ATTENTION ALL SUMNER HIGH STUDENTS AND STAFF!” the intercom blared urgently. “THE OFFICE JUST RECEIVED NOTICE THAT THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT RELEASED A TOXIN INTO THE ATMOSPHERE. WE ARE PUTTING THE SCHOOL ON LOCKDOWN AND NO STUDENT OR STAFF MEMBER IS PERMITTED TO GO OUTSIDE FOR ANY REASON UNTIL PROPER NOTICE IS RECEIVED. THANK YOU.”
Ria turned to face Kat again, but she was walking out the doors. “What are you doin’ Kit!”
“I’m not a student or staff,” Kat said with a grin. “And I want to go outside. So I’m going outside!”
“Kathlynn! Wait!” Ria chased her outside, half the class following the two teens.
“Get back here this instant!” Mrs. Harmon boomed, but didn’t dare to follow them.
Ria looked for Kat frantically. This effing toxin clouded half the damn town, Ria thought. Ria got a glimpse of Kat’s limp body before passing out herself.

Ria blinked the sleep out of her eyes. She looked at her surroundings, and she was back in the school. She was constricted to a bed of some sort, and, trying to get up, snapped the metal bands used to constrict her. Damn… Ria thought. She lifted up her hand, and almost let out a yelp of surprise as she noticed a tattoo on her hand. It was strange looking, almost tribal or alien. Before she decided to leave the room, she went into someone’s backpack and grabbed a pair of worker’s gloves.
She walked down the hall, but it was empty aside from some other students that were passed out. She walked by a room that held Peaches. “Peaches!” she cried. She shook Peaches by the shoulders, and luckily she woke up. She had a similar tattoo underneath her left eye.
“Where am I?” Peaches wondered. She opened her eyes, and flames shot out of them and set the whiteboard on fire. It took her five seconds to gain control of her ability, but the whiteboard was still on fire. “Damn!”
Ria grabbed a coat and started to control the flames. Doing that would have burned any normal person, but all it did was cause a tiny pain in her hands, like touching an almost cooled light bulb. She glanced at her hands in surprise. Holy shit… the gloves… they’re gone, but my hands are barely scathed.
“You’re like, super strong!” Peaches concluded. “I know you’ve always been strong, but WOW!”
“And your gaze has always been intense, but that’s a bit too fiery,” Ria stated. “I-I’d work on that.”
Peaches nodded, her eyes looking playful. “Let’s hope I don’t set my boyfriend on fire, eh?”
“You don’t even have a boyfriend Peaches.”
Peaches scoffed. “I will someday.” Then she smiled as she added: “Maybe.”
“Come on. Let’s go see if we can find Ranger, Hud, and Kit-Kat.”
Peaches nodded and jumped off of the desks she was laying on. Right after they exited the room they saw Hud speed by. “Hud on the run! Hud on the run!” Peaches squealed.
“Help me!” Hud yelled. “I can’t stop!” When Hud sped by a second time, Ria grabbed him, but didn’t brace herself, so she went flying with Hud.
“PEACHES!” Ria screamed. “BURN HIM! BURN HIM! BURN HIM!”
“NOOO! DON’T BURN HIM!” Hud yelled back.
An idea popped up in Ria’s head. “Burn his feet! His feet will give out, and then he’ll have to stop running.”
“NO WAY!”
“Just run into something!” Peaches implied. At that very second, Hud stopped paying attention and ran into the pole that divided hallways. “Good.”
“OW!” Hud yelled.
“RIA!” a voice yelled. “GET ME DOWN! PLEASE!”
“Ranger?” Ria replied, unsure. “Where are you?”
“Look up.” Ria looked up and saw Ranger floating. Ranger suddenly grinned. “Don’t move your head. I got a good boulder view.”
Ria growled. “Peaches! Burn him!” Peaches nodded, obeying. Ranger yelped in pain but he did fall off the ceiling. “Now, what was that Ranger?”
“Nothing…” Ranger mumbled.
“Andrew Rayne Parker!” Ria slapped him. “Get a good view of my hand?”
“Yes ma’am…” Ranger grumbled, but said nothing else.
Peaches blinked. “Why does it feel like we’re missing someone?”
“I don’t think we are,” Hud stated. “I mean, there WAS a short chick following you this afternoon and-”
“Kits!” Ria exclaimed.
“Ugh!” Hud sighed. “You’ve called her seven different things! Pick a name and stick with it.”
Ria ignored Hud and ran down the hall to the gymnasium. “Kat!” She came upon some beds with passed out people in them. She searched every bed, but Kat was not in any of them. Instead, Kat was laid on the bleachers. “Kitten?” Kat didn’t move. “Kat?” Still no response. “God dammit, Kathlynn Leigh Waters! Answer me!” Tears started to form in Ria’s eyes, but she did not let them shed. Instead, she sat on the bleachers, waiting for a response from her beloved friend.

As much as Ria wanted to, she couldn’t stay with Kat the whole time, because the staff kicked her out. “You can’t keep her here!” Ria yelled at Mrs. Boris.
“We have to, Riakayaa,” Mrs. Boris said, her tone flat and unenthusiastic.
“You bitch!” Ria aimed a punch at the teacher, but her friends were holding her back. It took all of them to hold the supernatural teen back. “Lemme go!”
“Punching Mrs. Boarass isn’t going to make anything better!” Peaches informed.
“It’ll make me feel a hell of a lot better!” But Ria dropped her stance, and her friends let her go. She contemplated making a sudden move on Mrs. Boris, but thought better of it. Her thoughts were interrupted by the gym door opening.
“Pam,” Mrs. Harmon said grimly. “I think the step-up student is dead.”
Mrs. Boris looked unaffected but faked concern. “I sure hope not.”
Ria growled and went after Mrs. Boris again. “You are SO fake! My best friend could be dead, and you have no concern whatsoever? What kind of monster are you?”
Mrs. Harmon edged back into the gym while Mrs. Boris and Ria fought. Then a startled gasp came from the gym. “She’s alive!”
